A personal answer, usually within three days.

In a modern, well-organised group practice in the Amsterdam region there is room for a dentist on a self-employed basis. You take over the patients from a colleague who is starting out on their own after five years, so you begin with a full schedule and people who have often been coming here for years. The team is small to medium-sized, has lunch together and knows patients by name. Wednesday and Friday are fixed, a third day is open to discussion.

What you’ll be doing

You run your own schedule with general dentistry and also carry out full rehabilitations. Together with the patient you arrive at a plan that holds up in the long term, preserving what can be preserved. Because many patients have been seeing the same practitioner for years, you quickly build up your own established patient base.

  • General dentistry with a taken-over, well-filled schedule
  • Full rehabilitations, from plan to completion
  • Consultation with the implantologist, dental hygienists and the in-house dental laboratory
  • Referrals for orthodontics and endodontics through regular partners

Who this suits

This suits a dentist who likes working independently and is prepared to make decisions without talking them through first. On your days you are often the only dentist in the building. If you are looking for a practice where a fellow dentist is always there to look over your shoulder, this is not the place.

What the practice offers

  • 40–45% of revenue with a schedule that is already full
  • Dentists, an implantologist, dental hygienists and an in-house dental laboratory under one roof
  • Intraoral scanner and separate changing rooms
  • Parking nearby (around € 10 per day)
  • Scope to take on more responsibility within the practice in time
  • A close-knit team of five to ten people that has lunch together and regularly does things together

Education and experience

  • BIG registration as a dentist
  • At least five years’ experience as a general dentist
  • Rubber dam as standard in the way you work
  • Demonstrable experience with full rehabilitations
  • Experience with dental photography
  • Good Dutch in contact with patients, even if it is your second language

What you bring

You look at the dentition as a whole rather than at individual teeth and opt for preservation wherever possible. You explain things, take the time for the plan and keep the long term in view. A down-to-earth outlook and a sense of humour complete the picture in this team. The process starts with an introductory meeting with the practice owner and the practice manager or one of the dentists; after that you spend a day at the practice.

Honestly: the schedule is full from day one and on your working days you are usually the only dentist, so your induction period is short and you rely mainly on your own judgement.
