A personal answer, usually within three days.
A practice for restorative and aesthetic dentistry in Amsterdam is looking for a dental assistant who can assist in surgery. You stand beside the dentist for three to five days, during long treatments of two to five hours.
What you’ll be doing
You assist four-handed in long treatments of two to five hours: crowns, bridges, veneers and full rehabilitations. During surgical steps you hand over instruments, use suction and keep the working field clear.
You take care of the instruments, the circulation and the sterilisation according to protocol. You take impressions and photos independently; more independent tasks are not required.
You often see five or six different steps in a single treatment. You remember what the dentist needs next and lay it out.
Who this suits
This suits you if you love the profession and want to work hard at a high pace. You learn quickly and can keep track of many small decisions at once.
Long treatments demand concentration. If you can’t keep that up, a practice with shorter appointments is a better choice.
What the practice offers
- Salary between € 2.800 and € 3.500 gross per month for 38 hours, plus 8% holiday allowance
- 28 to 36 hours a week, three to five days
- First a seven-month contract, then a year, then permanent
- 25 days of leave and a thirteenth month at the practice’s discretion
- A good learning environment with restorative and implant work
- The chance to grow into head assistant when a colleague leaves
Education and experience
A dental assistant qualification or proven experience at the chair. You have experience with four-handed working and you read and work according to protocols. Experience with restorative dentistry, implantology or periodontology is a plus.
What you bring
You cope well with stress and stick to protocol. You stay focused during a treatment that lasts for hours.
You ask when you don’t know something instead of guessing. A surgical step quickly touches on safety, so you take correction well.
Honestly: the first weeks are tough. Lots of protocols, lots of instruments and long treatments whose rhythm you have to learn first.
