A general practice in Amsterdam is looking for a head assistant for four or five days a week. You are the dentist’s right hand, you keep the protocols in order and you lead a team of assistants.
What you’ll be doing
You work at the chair yourself during the more complex treatments and you make sure the day at the chair runs smoothly. You know the dentists’ schedules and which assistant is needed where.
You manage the protocols, the orders and the stock. You induct new colleagues and make sure everyone works in the same way, from sterilisation to patient contact.
For questions from patients or colleagues, you are the first point of contact after the dentist. You consult the practice manager about rotas, cover and what the team needs.

Education and experience
At least eight years’ experience as a dental assistant. You have experience in coordinating colleagues and in orders and stock management. You know the protocols for sterilisation, hygiene and radiography and you safeguard them.
What you bring
You explain things well and give colleagues room to learn. You speak to them when something isn’t going well, and you do it in a way they can do something with.
You keep an overview when it gets busy and you stay calm when two dentists want something at the same time. You are reliable and keep to your agreements.
Honestly: you sit between the dentists and the team. Sometimes you have to explain a decision that you don’t fully agree with yourself.
