A personal answer, usually within three days.

A practice for restorative and aesthetic dentistry in Amsterdam is looking for a head assistant for four days a week. You stand beside the dentist during long, complex treatments, including at surgical level, and you keep the team’s protocols in order.

What you’ll be doing

You assist four-handed in long, complex treatments: crowns and bridges, veneers, full rehabilitations and the surgical steps around an implant. You know what the dentist needs before they ask for it.

Beside the chair you manage the protocols, the orders and the stock. You liaise with the dental technician about work in progress and you coordinate the other assistants, so that everyone works in the same way.

Implantology and oral surgery go to regular partners, so you mainly support the preparation and the aftercare. If something goes wrong in the schedule or the sterilisation, you are the first to see it and you sort it out.

Who this suits

This suits you if you have been at the chair for years and now want to do more than assist. You stay calm under pressure and you see the whole picture.

It suits you less if you would rather only work at the chair. Part of your week goes on organising, checking and showing colleagues the ropes.

What the practice offers

  • Salary between € 3.500 and € 4.500 gross per month for 38 hours, plus 8% holiday allowance
  • 32 to 40 hours a week, preferably four days
  • First a seven-month contract, then a year, then permanent
  • 25 days of leave and a thirteenth month at the practice’s discretion
  • Working with fixed protocols and a sterilisation room of your own
  • A small practice where the dentist and the practice manager keep lines short

Education and experience

At least ten years’ experience as a dental assistant at the chair. You assist four-handed in complex treatments, including at surgical level. Experience with stock management, orders or coordinating colleagues is required. You work according to protocols and you also safeguard them.

What you bring

You stay calm when a treatment runs over or two things go wrong at once. You explain why a protocol exists, so that colleagues don’t see it as something imposed.

You are professional and independent. The dentist must be able to rely on you, also on busy days. Experience in a high-end practice or an implantology practice is a plus.

Honestly: the treatments are long and intensive. A day can consist of two or three long treatments back to back with few breaks.
