A personal answer, usually within three days.

A practice in Amersfoort is looking for a periodontal prevention assistant for 24 to 32 hours. You support the dental hygienists and run your own aftercare clinic.

What you’ll be doing

You do periodontal aftercare: pocket measurements, scaling and instruction, in consultation with the dental hygienists.

You have your own aftercare clinic, two days a week. There you see patients who have had their periodontal treatment and are now in aftercare. You measure, clean, record the readings in the file and check whether the gums remain stable.

On the other days you support the dental hygienists. You prepare treatments, do simple check-ups and take over instruction. If a patient’s readings deteriorate, you discuss the next step with the dental hygienist.

Who this suits

This suits you if you want to specialise further in periodontology.

It also suits you if you still want to get periodontal certification. You then start as a prevention assistant and move up once you have completed the training. If you are mainly looking for work with children and prevention, the focus here is too much on the gums.

What the practice offers

  • Salary between € 2.700 and € 3.500 gross per month on a full-time basis, plus 8% holiday allowance
  • 24 to 32 hours a week
  • Your own aftercare clinic
  • The practice pays for the periodontal training if you haven’t done it yet
  • Close collaboration with the dental hygienists
  • Progression to periodontal prevention assistant if you are currently a prevention assistant

Education and experience

A dental assistant qualification with prevention and periodontal certification. If you only have prevention certification, you can apply too. You then get periodontal certification alongside your work, and the practice pays for the training.

What you bring

You stay calm and precise, even with patients who have a lot of complaints.

Pocket measurements call for accuracy, and you record them carefully. You motivate patients to keep it up at home, even when results come slowly. And you consult easily with the dental hygienists when something doesn’t go as expected.

Honestly: if you don’t have periodontal certification yet, you start as a prevention assistant until you have completed the training.
