A practice with four dentists in Alkmaar is looking for a prevention assistant for 24 to 32 hours, with your own prevention clinic for mainly children and young people.
What you’ll be doing
You run your own clinic: brushing instruction, scaling, fluoride and fissure sealing, mainly for children and young people.
Children often come with a parent. You let the child brush, point out where it could be better and give the parent tips for home. With young people it is more about braces, soft drinks and brushing that gets skipped. You find the tone that works for each age.
You keep track of how each patient is doing and discuss it with the dentist. If you see something that isn’t right, such as early cavities, you pass it on. One afternoon a week you still assist one of the dentists chairside.

This suits you if you want to work independently and are good with children.
It also suits you if you want to build up a clinic that is truly your own. Your schedule grows over the first few months. If you want to be away from the chair completely from day one, bear in mind that the one afternoon will stay for a while.

Education and experience
A dental assistant qualification with prevention certification. Experience running your own clinic is nice to have, but not necessary. If you want to do more with gum problems later, you can get periodontal certification with the training budget.

You are patient with a child who won’t open their mouth. With young people you stay honest without preaching. And you keep your own schedule up to date, so that your clinic fills up well.
Honestly: one afternoon a week you still assist chairside. That will decrease once the clinic is fully booked.
