Seconding a dental assistant.

Secondment means: the dental assistant is on our payroll and works in your practice.

Why this comes up so often.

You need a dental assistant for a longer period, but self-employment isn’t a sustainable arrangement — for instance because they are a fixed part of your rota.

It is the most sought-after role in dental care, and at the same time the role where it is least clear what someone will actually do: that varies a lot from practice to practice. Without getting that clear, you recruit for a title instead of for the work.

Honestly: per hour, secondment costs you more than someone on your own payroll. In return, the employer’s risk and the hirer’s liability don’t sit with you, and you can secure someone for a longer period without any debate about the arrangement. Whether that’s worth it depends on your situation — we simply run the numbers with you.

How it works.

We look at the arrangement together

What do you need, for how long, and how many days a week? From that it follows whether secondment is the right arrangement or something else fits better.

We handle the employer side

Contract, salary payments, insurance and sick leave sit with us. We work with an SNA-registered and NEN 4400-1 certified partner.

You get the cover

The person works in your practice and your rota. If anything comes up, you call us — not a payroll department.

Frequently asked questions.

Can’t a dental assistant simply work self-employed?

There is no model agreement for that. According to the KNMT, the Dutch dental association, there is already a deemed employment relationship once someone works more than one day a week for longer than a month, with a risk of additional tax assessments for the practice. Secondment is the safe route.

Do I carry any risk as the hirer?

No. We work with an SNA-registered and NEN 4400-1 certified partner; payroll tax and social contributions are secured that way. That is exactly why this route exists.

Can someone join our payroll later on?

Yes. Someone can first work through us and join your payroll after an agreed period. What applies to that, we agree beforehand, not afterwards.

How long am I committed for?

That is up to you, in consultation with us. We don’t work with contracts you can never get out of; what we agree is in the quote before you sign.
