For practices

Seconding a dental hygienist.

You need a dental hygienist for a longer period, but self-employment isn’t a sustainable arrangement — for instance because they are a fixed part of your rota. Then secondment is the route: the hygienist joins our payroll and works in your practice.

Clinical team at work in a dental practice

Why this comes up so often.

Dental hygienists are scarce, and you notice it straight away in the waiting time for prevention. A practice that can’t get its prevention team staffed sees patients go elsewhere — and they rarely come back.

Honestly: per hour, secondment costs you more than a self-employed contractor. In return, the employer’s risk and the hirer’s liability don’t sit with you, and you can secure someone for a longer period without any debate about the arrangement. Whether that’s worth it depends on your situation — we simply run the numbers with you.

How it works.

We look at the arrangement together

What do you need, for how long, and how many days a week? From that it follows whether secondment is the right arrangement or something else fits better.

We handle the employer side

Contract, salary payments, insurance and sick leave sit with us. We work with an SNA-registered and NEN 4400-1 certified partner.

You get the cover

The person works in your practice and your rota. If anything comes up, you call us — not a payroll department.

Also possible.

Hiring a locum dental hygienist

Need a locum dental hygienist for a day or a longer period? We know our locums personally and know who has room.

Recruiting a dental hygienist

Recruiting a dental hygienist for a permanent role: a practice visit first, a handful of candidates worth interviewing, and guidance through to the signature.

Hiring a self-employed dental hygienist

Hiring a self-employed dental hygienist is allowed as long as the work is genuinely independent.

Seconding a dentist

The same approach, for a dentist.

Frequently asked questions.

How is this different from hiring a self-employed contractor?

With a self-employed contractor you hire a business owner who sets their own rate and has several clients. With secondment the dental hygienist is our employee and works in your practice. The latter is allowed even when someone is a structural part of your rota on fixed days.

Do I carry any risk as the hirer?

No. We work with an SNA-registered and NEN 4400-1 certified partner; payroll tax and social contributions are secured that way. That is exactly why this route exists.

Can someone join our payroll later on?

Yes. Temp-to-perm is a common route: someone starts through us and joins your payroll after an agreed period. What applies is agreed up front, not afterwards.

How long am I committed for?

That is up to you, in consultation with us. We don’t work with contracts you can never get out of; what we agree is in the quote before you sign.
